Job Description
The General Ledger Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company's general ledger. This role involves a wide range of accounting functions, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and analysis. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of accounting principles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Journal Entries:
- Prepare and post journal entries for various transactions, including accruals, adjustments, and reclassifications.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions.
- Account Reconciliations:
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory.
- Analyze and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
- Financial Statement Preparation:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare supporting schedules and work papers for financial statements.
- Financial Analysis:
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and anomalies.
- Prepare variance analysis reports and investigate significant fluctuations.
- Internal Controls:
- Assist in the maintenance of internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Identify and recommend improvements to accounting processes and procedures.
- Other Duties:
- Assist with audits and tax filings as needed.
- Special projects as assigned.
